A Family Emergency
”Your family is your life, without them you lose hope.” Tom
When talking with Tom and his wife Michelle it’s easy to see that they are content, happy and are grateful for all that Volunteers of America Northwest Ohio has done for them. When you ask them about their experience with Volunteers of America Northwest Ohio they are quick to state how caring they are. Tom states, “They’re never too busy to see to the needs you have.”
Tom suffered a heart attack and lost his job, medical insurance, home and then his family. He, Michelle and their four children were left homeless with nowhere to turn. No one seemed to care, they were forced to send their children to relatives to provide shelter for them. At least that was until he walked into the doors of Volunteers of America Northwest Ohio. Tom said, “That’s when things changed”. We were connected with services, case management and needed assistance to rebuild our family. Michelle was just happy to finally get their children back together under one roof.
Tom and Michelle will never forget their experience. They were assisted with food, clothing, and shelter and provided with school clothes and Christmas gifts for the children. With the help of Volunteers of America Northwest Ohio staff helped them get into a new home and start over. The family now resides in a four bedroom house,; reunited with family and have medical benefits. “Some day we hope to give back to Volunteers of America Northwest Ohio. They really care about more than just daily needs, they care about complete families,” says Michelle. You also get thumbs up from the one of the younger members of the family; Christian who is five now, loves to come back to Crossroads. His mom Michelle says, “You are always welcomed and loved.”
